What’s Coming to the Corner of Washington and Centinela in Culver City West
If you drive Washington Boulevard through Culver City West, you already know the corner at Centinela. It’s the kind of intersection that’s been waiting for something for a while. That something has a name now: Culver Commons, a new retail project going up right at that corner, and once I saw the tenant lineup I wanted to write it up, because it’s a genuinely good sign for the neighborhood.
I pay attention to what opens and closes on the Westside for the same reason I pay attention to school boundaries and bus lines: it tells you something real about where a neighborhood is headed, and it matters to anyone thinking about buying or selling nearby.
What’s Actually Going In
Culver Commons is a 13,700-square-foot retail center at Washington Boulevard and Centinela Avenue, on the Culver City side of that corner (90066), according to Regency Centers’ own property listing. It’s still in the leasing and pre-opening phase as of this writing, but five tenants have already signed on, per the project’s leasing site:
- Vox Kitchen — a Pan-Asian chifa concept, the fusion of Chinese and Peruvian cooking that chifa refers to, from the same group behind ROL below.
- Wanderlust Creamery — an ice cream shop with a following across LA for playful, rotating flavors.
- Smog City Brewing Co. — a craft brewery out of Torrance opening a taproom presence here, real beer people, not a bar chain.
- ROL Hand Roll Bar — Japanese hand rolls, made to order, from the Kei Concepts group.
- El Moro — a churrería and chocolatería with roots in Mexico City, known for churros and thick Mexican hot chocolate.
Two more spaces in the center are still listed as available, so there’s likely more to come before it’s finished out.
Why This Corner, and Why It Matters If You Live Nearby
Centinela is one of those streets that quietly separates a lot of the Westside without anyone thinking about it day to day, Culver City on one side, Mar Vista and the edge of West LA on the other. A well-leased corner like this, with a real food and drink mix instead of one anchor tenant, tends to pull foot traffic from both directions instead of just one.
For anyone in Culver City West thinking about their home’s value, walkable retail with actual demand behind it, not empty storefronts, is one of the quieter things that supports a neighborhood over time. It’s not a reason to sell or wait on its own. It’s one more data point about where the momentum is.
Where Things Stand Right Now
As of this post, Culver Commons is still in its leasing and construction phase, the site’s own materials show renderings and a site plan rather than a finished, open center. I’ll update this once I know the tenants are actually open for business rather than just signed on.
